Latest Projects - February 2008

This winter in Idaho with lots of snow fall has been a great time for Frank to stay indoors and keep busy in his shop making instruments.  These instruments will make their debut at Parker, Arizona for the Bluegrass on the River Festival, February 29 through March 2, 2008.

Two new Guarneri model 4-strings (#151 and #154) are pictured below.

Instrument #151

Instrument #151 (above) has a beautiful big leaf maple back made from wood Frank purchased from a dealer in Port Townsend, Washington.  The top is made from Frank's Englemann Spruce that he harvested near McCall, Idaho.  The color of this instrument is a rich, red-brown.  This instrument is very easy to play, has a very full, even tone, and projects very well.

Instrument #154

Instrument #154 (above) has a very interesting Mrytlewood back made from wood Frank purchased for Orcas Island Tonewoods in Washington.  The top is made from Frank's Englemann Spruce that he harvested near McCall, Idaho.  This instrument is a medium brown in color with a hint of red.  Frank has just finished setting up #154 and feels it is going to be an excellent instrument - easy to play, very full rich tone, even across the strings, and has good projection.

A new Maggini model 5-string, #153, is shown below.

Instrument #153

Instrument #153, a Maggini model 5-string, has a back made from Carolina Poplar wood that Frank harvested near Shoshone, Idaho.  The top is made from Frank's Englemann Spruce that he harvested near McCall, Idaho.  This instrument is a nice medium brown color with just a touch of red.  This 5-string has just been played about an hour in the shop, but it is very responsive, easy to play, projects well and is even across the strings.
