#171 is a 5-string Maggini model that was completed in May 2009 for a musician and good friend in California.  The one-piece back, the sides and the neck are made from quilted maple purchased from Bay Woods near Port Townsend, Washington.   The top wood on this fiddle is Idaho Engelmann spruce that came from central Idaho north of Brundage Mountain.   The finish on this fiddle is a light golden brown.   The fiddle was made using a Maggini pattern with double purfling.   This instrument was described to Frank as being silky smooth and very even.   This instrument will be delivered in June.
