#163 is a 4-string Strad model completed in September 2008.  The back, sides and neck on this violin are silver maple, wood that Frank's Father harvested 40-50 years ago in Idaho.  The top wood is Engelmann spruce that came from central Idaho north of Brundage Mountain.  This violin was setup as a classical violin and was competed in the gut-string category at the Violin Makers Association of Arizona competition in October 2008 and placed 12th in tone in the first round.  Unfortunately only the top ten instruments move into the second round.  This instrument has a good even tone and is very easy to play.  This instrument is available and if it does not sell before March, Frank will display it at the Havasu City, Arizona bluegrass festival the first weekend of March.
