#162 is a 4-string Guarneri model completed in September 2008.  The back, sides and neck on this instrument are big leaf maple from Orcas Island Tonewoods.  The top wood is Engelmann spruce that came from central Idaho north of Brundage Mountain.  This fiddle has a very pleasing tone and is well balanced on all four strings.  This medium brown colored instrument was competed in the steel-string category at the Violin Makers Association of Arizona competition in October 2008 and placed sixth in tone in the first round, but did not make it in the top five instruments in the second round.  This instrument sold at the Tucson Bluegrass Festival right after the competition.
