Frank's Fiddle Photos » Fiddle Showcase

#106 is a 5-string fiddle with a Helicore "C" string and Prim steel strings on the other four strings. The fiddle was made using a Maggini pattern. The fiddle is slightly longer than a Stradivarius model and the lower bout is wider. The ribs are a little bit higher to obtain more air volume inside the box. The larger body seems to enhance the "C" string and to make the other strings even in volume and tone. The back, sides and neck wood is Carolina Poplar that came from the Saras Family Farm east of Shoshone, Idaho. The top wood is Englemann spruce that came from the Idaho mountains north of McCall, Idaho. The color of this fiddle is yellowish-orange with a little brown included to mellow the yellow-orange. This instrument has sold.
